Public invited to sneak a peek at new primary school under construction in north Rugby

Rugby Editorial 14th Feb, 2023   0

A NEW primary school being built in Rugby will be open to the public for an exclusive glimpse of the live construction site next month.

Griffin School, which is under construction at the Eden Park development in the north of the town, is taking part in contractor Willmott Dixon’s Open Doors week (March 13-18).

Work began on the £6.7m project in September and is due to be finished later this year, when it will provide a new primary school, with separate modular construction nursery buildings. It aims to ease the growing demand on primary school places created by new housing developments in the area.

Visitors will be able to go behind the barriers to learn how the project is being constructed, and meet those responsible for it.

Michelle Cotterill, director, at Willmott Dixon, said: “The Griffin School development is a fantastic project that will act as a perfect example of modern methods of construction in action.

A prefabricated modular nursery building has been manufactured elsewhere, transported, and put together on the live site of the Griffin School.

“Those stepping foot on the site will be able to see how the project has taken shape, including the ways in which the modular, prefabricated nursery building has been manufactured elsewhere, transported and then put together on the live site.

“Griffin School is helping to increase capacity for Rugby’s growing housing market in a way that ensures the school can be extended to increase future capacity quickly without compromising on quality. It is undoubtedly a unique opportunity to learn more about a project that includes some of the best construction techniques being used by industry today.”

The school, a non-selective, state-funded, one-form entry primary school for children aged four to 11, will be run by Lawrence Sheriff School as its approved sponsor, which is forming a multi-academy trust.

This project is open for bookings until February 28. Visit for more information or to book a place.
