Public to have their say on plans for 2,750-home Lutterworth development

THE PUBLIC can have their say on plans for a new 2,750-home development to the east of Lutterworth later this month.

Leicestershire County Council (LCC) wants to sell 550-acres of land next to the M1 for housing.

Plans for the land – which include around 1,000 affordable homes, over 100 hectares of green space, and two new primary schools – have been submitted to Harborough District Council.

The scheme’s 23 hectares of retail and business space would create 2,500 jobs.

The plan also features improvements to main roads and the M1, and a new spine road to reduce town centre traffic.

LCC deputy leader Coun Byron Rhodes said: “New homes are in demand. Our focus is on creating quality, affordable houses that will help people get on or move up the property ladder.

“It’s important they’re located in the right place – and the plan could ease pressure for further development in other, less suitable parts.”

Concerns over insufficient infrastructure and the proposed spine road have been raised by Lutterworth Town Council.

LCC expects to make around £30million from the land sale, which it says would be invested in frontline services.

The proposal is included in Harborough District Council’s emerging local plan, which sets out how land is used up to 2031.

The planning application is set to be determined by Harborough District Council this summer.

Residents can view plans and speak to officers at an exhibition at the Wycliffe Rooms in Lutterworth on Friday March 22 from 1-8pm.
