Punk, classic crime and a whoe lot more at Warwick Arts Centre

Rugby Editorial 13th Jan, 2024   0

FROM the Sex Pistols to Agatha Christie – the new year line-up at Warwick Arts Centre is nothing if not diverse.

Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten will be reflecting on his colourful career, while historian Lucy Worsley will explore the life of arguably the world’s most famous crime writer, Agatha Christie.

Celebrity farmer Kaleb Cooper of Clarkson’s Farm fame will share his views on everything from farm animals to his boss Jeremy, while Caroline Quentin will ponder the therapeutic power of gardening.

Looking to raise a laugh with their latest shows will be Aurie Styla, Frankie Boyle, Josh Pugh, Guz Khan, Richard Herring, Frank Skinner, John Kearns, Ria Lina and Alex ‘Taskmaster’ Horne’s The Horne Section.

Music can also be heard in many forms, with concerts ranging from classical guitar superstar Miloš Karadaglić and orchestral power-house The Hallé, to the celebratory The John Martyn Project and Afrofuturist/jazz musician Camilla George.

There will also appearances from reunited indie folk band Stornoway, singer-songwriter Jake Bugg, soon to be retiring 80s soul legend Alexander O’Neal and the Fleetwood Mac-approved tribute Rumours Of Fleetwood Mac.

James Wilton Dance’s Lore will offer a folklore inspired journey into a pagan world of gods, demons and humans, Ad Infinitum Productions’ Beautiful Evil Things provides a comic take on the Trojan War, while Ephemeral Ensemble’s Rewind draws on the science of Forensic Anthropology to piece together a crime secretly buried using music, movement, puppetry, projection and lighting.

And there will also be lots for families to discover, including a Big Fish Little Fish rave with DJ Bobby Friction plus adaptations of popular picture books such as We’re Going On A Bear Hunt and Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book.
