Pupils create fitting tribute to Queen

Rugby Editorial 20th Sep, 2022   0

A FITTING tribute to the Queen has been created by pupils and staff at the Crescent School.

Youngsters at the Bawnmore Road school were encouraged to reflect and respond to the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s death, and to share their thoughts and feelings.

Children and staff completed activities together to reflect on the Queen’s life and legacy, and to give thanks for her devoted service to the nation.

Children in the Upper School explored the Queen’s life in their history lessons, reflecting on the commitments made in her 21st birthday speech, while younger children created and coloured thank you cards for the Queen and the royal family.

Teachers Louise Symons and Sam Stapleton created a board of remembrance in the school corridor, comprising the children’s work and a timeline of the Queen’s life.

It features a particularly poignant letter the school received on behalf of Her Majesty on Thursday September 8 – the day the Queen died – thanking the children for their Platinum Jubilee messages.

A school spokeswoman said: “All the staff have been impressed with how the children have responded as we have explored the Queen’s life of duty and her place in history.”
