Railway bridge works to delay traffic for next four weekends

TRAFFIC will be delayed by repairs to railway bridges in Rugby over the next four weekends.

Work on the two bridges which carry the West Coast main line over Brindley Road in Hillmorton starts on Sunday (February 17) and will continue until Friday April 12.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight for the next four weekends – on February 17-18, February 22-23, March 3-4 and March 10-11.

Engineers found essential repairs were needed during routine inspections.

Foam concrete will be used to ensure the bridges’ stability for years to come.

Michael Lally, works delivery manager at Network Rail, said: “As part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, we will be carrying out essential repairs where the West Coast mainline passes over Brindley Road in Rugby.

“We have worked closely with Warwickshire County Council to plan the work to reduce the impact on residents and businesses as much as possible.”

The work will not affect rail journeys, but motorists in the area are being advised their journeys may take slightly longer.
