Razor sharp Rugby barber aiming for national title

A RAZOR-sharp Rugbeian has made the cut for a second chance to be crowned Britain’s best wet shaving barber.

Jamie Crawford, who works at Legends Barbershop in Castle Street, saw off competition from hundreds of other barbers from across the country to make the final eight of Britain’s Best Shave for the second year running.

The 27-year-old impressed the judges during the qualification round in Manchester on a number of criteria, including shave preparation, razor technique, post-shave routine, health and safety, and overall efficiency.

Jamie, who has been a barber for 14 years, said: “As far back as I can remember I have always been fascinated with hair and the things you can do with it – as well as how good something as simple as a haircut can make you feel.

“My great grandfather taught me to shave at a very young age and I’ve been hooked ever since.

“Wet shaving is a dying art these days so it’s great to keep the tradition alive by doing events such as Britain’s Best Shave and inspiring more people to keep the tradition going in the barbering industry.

“I always wanted to make people happy and feel good about themselves, so what better way than giving them the best haircut possible to make them feel and look good. It’s the small things that count, and a fresh trim goes a long way!”

Jamie, who grew up in Woodford Halse near Daventry and moved to Rugby seven years ago, reached the same stage of the competition last year but was knocked out in the quarter final.

He said he was delighted with his performance in the qualification round and hoped his experience in 2018 would hold him in good stead.

“I’m stoked to be in the finals once again and am really looking forward to it. I want to push myself more and more, so competitions such as these are great for me to better myself, and the service my clients receive too.

“If I win then I plan on celebrating with my loved ones over a nice meal, and deciding what I can do next to help me move forward in my career.”

The national finals of the British Barbers’ Association Britain’s Best Shave 2019 will be held at the HJ Live London hair and beauty show at the ExCeL London on Sunday February 24.

The winner will take home £500 worth of products from the competition’s sponsors, male grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge.
