A RECORD number of children in Warwickshire have been offered one of their top primary school choices for the 2023-24 academic year.
On National Offer Day yesterday (Monday April 17), 98 per cent of children in the county were offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools – with 91 per cent getting their first choice.
This year, over 6,300 Warwickshire children applied for a Reception place – an increase of 1.5 per cent on the previous year, and the highest number of applications recorded in the last four years.
A further 1,200 children applied for a Year 3 place at a Junior school, 99 per cent of whom received an offer for their first choice.
The majority of parents and carers who applied online will have received an email, or can check their online parent portal, with details of their school offer and instructions on what to do next. Letters to remaining applicants have been posted.
Nigel Minns, Strategic Director at Warwickshire County Council said: “I’m delighted to see that so many young children have been made offers to one of their preferred schools.
“Starting school for the first time, or moving to a junior school, is a milestone moment in a child’s life, filled with excitement and anticipation for the future. I have no doubt that these children have a bright future ahead of them and we look forward to welcoming them to our schools in September.”
The council has produced a series of advice videos and held online webinars where parents and carers can ask questions of the admissions team. Visit www.youtube.com/@WarwickshireCountyC to watch the videos.
The deadline for Warwickshire parents to respond to their primary school offer is May 2. Visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/admissions for more information.
