Region's health leaders urge residents to book Covid tests online if they show symptoms

HEALTH leaders across Coventry and Warwickshire are urging residents to book a test online if they have symptoms of Covid-19.

With the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases on the rise both nationally and locally, there has been a high demand for tests in the region in recent days.

Dr Sarah Raistrick, Chair at Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We are pleased that people are doing the right thing and getting tested when they have Covid-19 symptoms, but it is really important that people access the tests online via the government website.

“Over the past few days, GP practices and NHS 111 have received calls from patients asking for Covid-19 tests, which is not something that they can arrange or provide.

“Your GP practices are open and working hard to continue to deliver services to patients following the necessary changes as a result of Covid-19. Please support their recovery by booking Covid-19 tests online or call 119 if you develop symptoms.”

Residents are asked to follow national government guidelines and to book a test online via the national government website or call 119 if they have a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss of or change to sense of smell or taste.

Due to the high demand for Covid-19 tests, people are advised to follow the below guidance if they require a test:

  • Request a test via the national online testing system at specific times of the day – early morning or after 8pm
  • If you have Covid-19 symptoms, self-isolate for 10 days or until you are able to get a test result
  • Ensure your household members self-isolate for 14 days until you or they are able to get a test result
  • Do not contact your GP or NHS111 as they are unable to assist.

Visit the NHS website or the government website for more information about Covid-19, including symptoms and how to self-care.
