Retirees to cycle length of Britain for life-changing charity

A STRETTON-on-Dunsmore man and his former colleague have set themselves the challenge of cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of the Guide Dogs charity.

Ken Wilkinson and John Rigby have been cycling together regularly since retiring from their jobs at Jaguar Land Rover – and this year they have decided to cycle the near 1,000-mile journey across Britain.

Stretton man Ken said: “The two things that will be most challenging are the hills and the fact that you’ve got to cycle every day. No matter how tired you are, you’ve got to get up and do it all over again.”

The pair chose to support Guide Dogs as Ken volunteers for the charity.

He said: “As a volunteer driver for Guide Dogs, I have met guide dog owners and I have heard from them just what a difference their guide dog makes to their life.

“It’s inspiring listening to these stories and hearing about what people have overcome.

“The thing that stands out for me is that the charity Guide Dogs helps people to live independently.”

Ken and John will start their two-week ride on Sunday June 23. They hope to raise £1,000. Visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kenandjohn to donate.
