Rugbeians invited to share views on policing at public event

Rugby Editorial 3rd Nov, 2022   0

RUGBEIANS are being offered a chance to share their views on policing, community safety and how it should be funded at a public event next week.

The ‘Your Police, Your Views’ event is being organised by Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Philip Seccombe with the help of Rugby Street Pastors.

Members of the public are being encouraged to attend to hear about the work of the PCC, share views on how Warwickshire Police is performing, and take part in a question-and-answer session.

Representatives from Warwickshire Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams for Rugby will also be on hand.

The meeting will also give people across the borough the chance to feed back on how the budget for policing should be spent to address local priorities.

Mr Seccombe said: “I launched the ‘Your Police, Your Views’ programme earlier this year to get as much feedback from the public as possible. It’s vital that I get a good understanding of what’s working, what needs improvement and where spending should be prioritised, ahead of setting the budget for policing.

“I’m pleased to be able to hold this event in Rugby to give people an opportunity to come along and raise issues face-to-face, as well as hearing about the work that is being undertaken to improve policing, reduce crime and keep communities safe.

“I’m grateful to Rugby Street Pastors for helping to organise the meeting and I’d encourage everyone who can to come along.”

Last month, a Police Effectiveness, Efficiency and Legitimacy (PEEL) report said Warwickshire Police ‘won’t be able to effectively reduce crime’ until improvements are made.

His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) rated Warwickshire Police as ‘requiring improvement’ – the second-to-last of five grades – at investigating crime, responding to the public, and managing offenders.

It received an ‘adequate’ score in preventing crime, treatment of the public, protecting vulnerable people, developing a positive workplace, and making good use of resources.

No areas scored the highest two grades of ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ – or the bottom grade of ‘inadequate’.

The ‘Your Police, Your Views’ event takes place at Rugby Baptist Church’s Community Centre in Regent Place between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday (November 7). Anyone unable to attend can visit www.warwickshire-pcc.gov.uk/yourviews to give their views through an online survey.
