Rugby BikeFest 2020 officially cancelled

HOPES of Rugby’s annual BikeFest being resceduled for later this year have been dashed, as organisers announced the 2020 event has been cancelled.

Town centre management company Rugby First took the decision to cancel this year’s BikeFest ‘with a heavy heart and regret’, in light of the ongoing coronavirus situation, government advice, and uncertainty around mass public gatherings and events.

The event, which had been due to take place on May 17, was initially postponed in March when the coronavirus crisis began.

Rugby First operations manager Ryan Webster said: “We appreciate this will be hugely disappointing news to all those that have enjoyed the Bikefest over the years, but our priority has to be the safety and well-being of visitors, exhibitors, staff and volunteers alike.

“In taking the decision now, it will allow everyone to look forward and put plans in place for 2021.”

Rugby First will contact exhibitors, entertainers, volunteers, bikers and infrastructure providers about the cancellation.
