A CHARITY supporting adults with learning difficulties is hoping to bag a cash boost.
New Directions is in the running to receive a grant of up to £4,000 – thanks to the 5p bag levy – in a new scheme launched by Tesco and community charity Groundwork.
Three groups have been nominated for Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ and shoppers are being invited to vote for who they think should receive the top grant.
New Directions would use the money to create a sensory garden for disabled people at supported living flats.
The sensory garden at Richmond Court will be a communal space with features to stimulate the five senses. It will also provide opportunities for residents to do some gardening in a user-friendly environment including raised flower beds and access for physically disabled people.
Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £28.5 million to more than 4,000 projects up and down the UK.
Head of community at Tesco, Lindsey Crompton, said: “We are absolutely delighted to open the voting for May and June. There are some fantastic projects on the shortlists and we can’t wait to see them come to life in hundreds of communities.”
Funding is available to charities and projects that bring benefits to communities. visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp for more details.
