A CHURCH in Rugby has become one of just five in the UK to receive an award for its eco-friendly work.
St Andrew’s Church has been given the Eco Church Gold Award by Christian environmental charity A Rocha.
Speaking after her final service before leaving the church for pstures new, Reverend Imogen Nay said the award was the result of hard work by congregation members, staff and the local community.
She said: “We have been amazed at the way the community has supported us in our eco ventures, from the making of eco bricks, to support for our St Andrew’s Garden Project and to attending our Sustainable Saturday Fayres. We have been exploring new ways to worship and this has taken us outside with the development of Muddy Church.
“The momentum and enthusiasm behind a genuine love and care for creation is strong in Rugby. For us this is only the beginning of the journey and we look forward to working in partnership with many more people and organisations to transform our local communities to make them healthier environments for all to live in.”
