A-LEVEL students at Rugby College celebrated after students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in 13 subjects including Accounting, Business, Economics, English Language and Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Overall, students across the Warwickshire College Group (WCG) achieved a 98.7 per cent pass rate.

Daniel Thomas Ross, 18, from Rugby, secured a place at Derby University to read Journalism with a B and two C grades. He said: “I’m very pleased with today’s results and would like to thank my tutors who have been so supportive.”

Laura Clark, 18, also from Rugby, is heading off to Gloucester University after getting the grades she needed to study for a degree in Sociology. She said: “I’m so proud of achieving three Cs. The college and staff have been so supportive, and without them I wouldn’t have had the confidence to push myself.”

Tracy Gudgeon, Laura’s lecturer in Sociology and Health and Social Care, said: “After not getting the results that she wanted in her AS levels last year, a determined Laura has managed to improve dramatically and get the grades she needed.”

Jacob Plumbley, 19, from Rugby, is heading off to Salford University to read Criminology after scoring A, B and C grades.

Jacob came to pick up his results with his sister Isobel who was collecting her AS grades. He said: “These results were unexpected and I am very pleased that I did better than I thought.”

WGC vice principal Neil Coker said: “We are incredibly proud of all of our students and want to congratulate them on their A-level achievements. It is wonderful to see our students build upon the success of last year, which is a testament to the hard work of staff and students.

“Much of our A-level offer is designed with specific career and progression pathways in mind, and all our subjects are taught by specialists in their field. The level of personal tutoring for all students is excellent and this, along with high standards in teaching and learning, results in our students achieving excellent grades. Progression to university continues to be extremely strong and our students embark on their degree level study as confident individuals who are knowledgeable in their subjects.”
