Rugby council: Coventry Bees' stadium still in 'unsatisfactory' state

Rugby Editorial 13th Oct, 2017   0

THE OWNERS of Coventry Stadium have been granted an additional 21 days to comply with a formal notice issued by Rugby Borough Council.

Brandon Estates had until 8am on Monday (October 9) to meet several key requirements regarding security and ‘unsightly’ waste at the world-famous speedway venue.

The offshore company reacted to the notice by dumping truckloads of earth outside the stadium’s two main entrances and securing the site with a padlock and screws.

Brandon Estates’ actions were considered unsatisfactory by the Council – and a 21-day extension to meet the Council’s five requirements has been granted.

No fine has been issued by the Council to Brandon Estates.

A Rugby Borough Council spokesperson told The Observer the council was not satisfied with the current state of the site.

A Brandon Estates spokesperson revealed they will be appealing the notice with the Magistrates’ Court.

The extension gives Brandon Estates until 8am on Monday October 30 to fulfil several key requirements.

The requirements include:

  1. Ensuring no waste and unsightly items accumulate on the land that will have a detrimental impact on the quality of life of others living next to the stadium
  2. To adequately secure the site against access by unauthorised persons
  3. Coventry Stadium itself must be sufficiently secured to prevent further break-ins
  4. To ensure regular monitoring and inspection of the land is carried out every 14 days
  5. To not allow the premises to deteriorate to the extent that such premises becomes detrimental to the quality of life of others in the locality.
