Rugby couple's hit comedy podcast returns for new series

Rugby Editorial 8th Feb, 2022   0

A HIT comedy podcast by a transatlantic couple from Rugby has returned for a third series.

The podcast by Ben Goodwin, 36, and Ben ‘Benja’ Porcel, 39, explores the cultural quirks of their respective homelands – the UK and Argentina.

As two larger gay men – known as bears – looking back on their life experiences, they decided to call the show Bear Back.

Ben Goodwin grew up in York, before moving to Birmingham aged 18. Meanwhile, Benja was born in the Argentine city of Rosario, 185 miles northwest of the capital Buenos Aires.

Series one and two of ‘Bear Back’ have already been heard by thousands around the world, and the boys celebrated their first year of broadcasting with two specials over the festive period.

Series three launched with an episode devoted to music, and topics covered over the next few weeks will include driving, Argentine cuisine and beard care.

Alongside their personal culture clash, the couple will be joined by guests including TV presenter and fashion stylist to the stars Joey Bevan.

The duo will also be interviewing US cosplay superstar Chris Calfa, a.k.a. Princess Chris, and Felix Palafox, the founder of men’s cosmetic brand Adonis Arcana.

The duo will also be marking LGBT+ History Month by highlighting the queer heroes who have inspired them.

Ben Goodwin said: “We’re so excited to be back for series three. We’re certainly bigger, better and Ben-ier than we were before, with an eclectic line up of guests from across the globe. However, we’ve still crammed in all the usual fun and frolics our listeners have come to expect.”

Environmental engineer Benja moved to the UK for work in 2014 and has lived in Rugby with communications manager Ben since 2019.

Benja said: “We never expected our little show would become so popular and we are humbled by everyone who tune in each week to hear us bicker from our corner of the world.

“We can’t wait for everyone to hear series three and hope we can continue to make people smile as we continue to work through our cultural differences through the podcast.”

Episodes will launch weekly on Fridays across all major podcast platforms.
