FIREFIGHTERS worked for over an hour trying to free a bull who got its head stuck in a tree.

Two crews were called to the scene off Barby Road in Rugby at around 11am on Monday (October 26) to try to free the bull.

The bull, named Billy, was eventually rescued after 90 minutes with help from the Specialist Large Animal rescue team. Fire crews used riot shields to defend themselves as they used a winch to free the animal.

The fire service said they were able to free the bull quickly without the need to sedate it, and described the bull as “none the worse for wear” after becoming dislodged from the tree.
