Rugby firework spectacular still wows after 66 years

AN IDEA to help local orphan children which exploded into life 66 years ago lives on as Rugby’s biggest fireworks display returns on Saturday (November 4).

Rugby Round Table will host Rugby’s 66th annual Firework Spectacular at Whinfield Park.

The show has moved with the times since it was first held on November 5 1951 to raise money for local kids who had lost their parents.

This year visitors will be treated to a funfair, live music from Dead Frequency and Massive Happy, and a spectacular fireworks finale.

Round Table National President Steven Grew said: “We are so proud to help thousands of people every year through the generous donations and tickets sales at our firework events. With brilliant displays, bonfires and fairground rides, the fact that each of these events is run by volunteers is an absolutely incredible achievement.

“This year, Tablers are gearing up to make sure visitors are kept safe and entertained from start to finish. Our previous firework displays have helped us raise much-needed funds for local charities and we are keen to continue to show our support and this year do even more.

“We’re proud to be still running the event and have been overwhelmed with positive feedback in recent years. We can’t wait to see all the community enjoying the awesome show.”

Gates open at 4:30pm, live music starts at 5pm and the fireworks finale starts at around 6.15pm.

Tickets cost £5 in advance or £7 on the gate. Under-3s get in free. Visit for tickets and more information.
