THOUSANDS flocked to Rugby town centre for the annual Christmas lights switch-on event on Sunday (November 19).
Throughout the afternoon, crowds enjoyed music and dance, children’s entertainment, stalls, food and funfair rides, before 90s pop sensation East 17 serenaded them with their renowned festive number one Stay Another Day and other hits.
The event came to a close with the big switch-on, followed by a firework display.
Linda Lowne, Business Manager of event organiser Rugby First, said: “It was an amazing day and great to see so many people in the town centre.
“The high footfall will have provided a tremendous boost to the local town centre economy, with many businesses saying how well they did on the day. It is so important that we support our local town centre businesses, and events like this not only increase footfall and income on the day, but also raise awareness of what Rugby town centre has to offer and bring people back into the town centre.
“I would like to say a massive thanks to all those businesses, communities, groups, performers, organisations, and the police who came together to put on a brilliant and safe event that was really enjoyed by everyone.”
