Rugby MP saddles up for Poppy Ride

Rugby Editorial 10th Nov, 2022   0

MP Mark Pawsey saddled up to try and outdo his colleagues in a Poppy Ride.

The charity ride took place at Parliament’s Portcullis House where MPs were invited to cycle as far as they could in five minutes.

And although the primary purpose of the ride is to raise awareness of the Poppy Appeal, a friendly spirit of competition is encouraged.

The Royal British Legion even keep a leader board of MPs’ distances.

Mark cycled 2.33km in his five minutes.

He said: “Every year the Poppy Appeal raises millions of pounds to help support our veterans – people who have put their lives on the line in defence of our country and our freedoms. More than that, every year we come together on Remembrance Sunday to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts around the world, both historic and tragically in ongoing conflicts today.

“I know that residents in Rugby and Bulkington always show great support for the Poppy Appeal and come together on Remembrance Sunday both in the town centre, and in many of the communities throughout the constituency. It is really important that, over a century after the formation of the Royal British Legion, we continue to support their work and that is why I was pleased to take part in the Poppy Ride at Parliament.”
