Rugby MP 'unable' to support Prime Minister

Rugby Editorial 7th Jun, 2022   0

RUGBY’S MP was ‘unable’ to support the Prime Minister in yesterday’s confidence vote.

Boris Johnson won the support of 211 of his own MPs, but 41 per cent of his party voted to get rid of him – including Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey.

Mr Pawsey said: “I waited for the Sue Gray report and was disappointed to read its contents. I have concluded that it is now time for a different kind of leadership and a new team.

“With a General Election only two years away, now is the right time for a new leader to bring about the changes we need to restore the country’s confidence in the Government and ensure a Conservative victory in 2024.”

The proportion of MPs who voted against Johnson is even greater than the votes against Theresa May in 2018 and Margaret Thatcher in 1990. Thatcher resigned a week later.
