Rugby PPE Response going from strength to strength

Rugby Editorial 19th May, 2020   0

THE RUGBY PPE Response (RPPER) has expanded rapidly over the past month in the fight against coronavirus.

The volunteer group was sparked when Dr Keith Edgar, a recently retired GP, volunteered to return to work and met up with Jo Thomas, a teaching assistant at Bilton Junior School, who had started using the school’s 3D printer to produce visors.

And now the RPPER has joined forces with the Benn Partnership to extend the range and volume of PPE produced for carers and the community.

A team of stitchers has made more than 400 scrubs bags as well as scrubs and headbands for the team at St Cross Hospital.

They are keen to receive donations of material such as sheets, pillow cases or duvet covers that can be used for various kinds of PPE. They would also welcome any cash donations.

Dr Edgar said: “On May 15 we recorded that together with our partner groups we have dispatched 8,296 face visors and 600 other items of PPE to over 79 organisations across Rugby, Coventry and Warwickshire.

“Joining up with the Benn Partnership will also help us reach schools and other members of the community who are most vulnerable for a wide range of reasons.”

“Another benefit of this new partnership is that we have been able to move our distribution base to the Benn Partnership Centre. I would like to thank Kellie Preece and the team at the Westside Medical Centre for all the support that they have given to the launch of the initiative.”

Cash donations can be made via uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/RugbyPPEResponse or directly to the Friends of St Cross or the Benn Partnership.
