A PUPIL from Rugby Free Secondary School (RFSS) who was diagnosed with Covid-19 is feeling ‘very well’ and will be back in lessons soon, the school has announced.

The Learning Today Leading Tomorrow trust which runs the school confirmed there had been no further reported cases of the disease caused by coronavirus at RFSS.

A spokesperson said: “The school remains open, is fully operational and calm. Children and staff are following the new hygiene procedures that have been introduced during the day and at lunch time.

“The school and trust are continuing to liaise closely with Public Health England (PHE), Warwickshire County Council and the Regional Schools Commissioner’s office.”

The trust’s CEO Brenda Mullen said: “We would like to thank acting head teacher Samirah Roberts and her staff for their calm approach to business as usual, and also our students for the maturity they have shown.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the wider educational community in Rugby who have been very supportive during what has been a challenging time for all.”

The pupil had shown no symptoms after self-isolating for 14 days as a precaution after travelling to Italy, so returned to school at the end of last week – but was diagnosed last weekend after falling ill and is currently isolating at home.

The school and PHE advised those who had been in contact with the child to self-isolate.

The school has been cleaned according to PHE guidance, and had introduced disposable hand towels, hand sanitiser in every classroom and new protocols at lunchtime.

The trust said it would continue to operate on a ‘business as usual’ basis and will make a further statement should the situation change.

There are currently four confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Warwickshire.
