RUGBY Recovery Partnership, part of the national charity Addaction, is preparing to mark a milestone birthday.
The charity will be celebrating its 50th birthday with a free family event on the green in Regents Place on Thursday July 20 between noon and 3pm.
The summer fete will feature fun activities including ‘Beat the goalie’, guess the weight of the cake, spot the ball, hook a duck, Tin Can alley, a raffle and tombola.
But there will also be a more serious side to the day and there will be several stands providing advice on how to stop smoking and a chance to experience what it is like to drink drive by wearing beer goggles while driving a radio-controlled car.
Rugby Recovery Partnership is a service that helps people in Warwickshire with drug and alcohol addiction. It is part of the national charity Addaction, founded 50 years ago and now one of the leading substance misuse providers in the UK.
Project worker Stephen Cox said: “Addaction support adults, children, young adults and older people to make positive behavioral changes. Whether that’s with alcohol, drugs, or mental health and wellbeing, we’re here to help people improve their lives in ways they never thought possible.
“Addaction’s 50th anniversary is a cause for celebration and an opportunity for reflection. Much has changed in 50 years, but our work is more necessary than ever.”
Aftab Gaffar, Rugby First Managing Director, added the work of Addaction was “invaluable and increasingly important” in the modern world.
