Rugby set for a flipping fun Pancake Day as town centre event returns

FLIPPING fun on Pancake Day will return to Rugby town centre for the first time since the pandemic this year.

Races and celebrations will take place in the town centre on Shrove Tuesday – and organisers are looking for residents to get involved.

On the menu will be pancake races for all ages, pancake tossing and throwing, face painting, circus skills including egg juggling, mini rides, a pancake quiz trail, a fancy dress competition, and a chance to meet The Rokeby Lion – the mascot of the Rugby Rokeby Lions fund-raising group which is organising the event.

Ralph Watson, President of Rugby Rokeby Lions, said: “We are delighted to bring this traditional event back to the town centre and are very grateful for the support that we have received from Rugby First.

“All proceeds for the event will go to the Brain Tumour Research Appeal and we welcome all donations. To maximise the funds raised for this worthy cause we need as many businesses, groups and individuals to take part and support the event as possible.

“Although you can enter the races on the day, we are encouraging businesses and groups to contact us in advance so that we can answer any queries they may have and get them registered.”

Rugby First Business Manager Linda Lowne said: “I am so pleased that this event has returned to the town centre and that we can help Rugby Rokeby Lions to deliver it.

“Rugby First is keen to support any event, activity or initiative that helps to raise awareness of the town centre and bring people into it – especially at this time of year, when things traditionally are very quiet following the Christmas festivities.

“A number of town centre businesses are planning some special Pancake Day offers on the day, so why not take advantage of them while having some fun at the same time.”

The free event takes place in High Street and Sheep Street from 12-3pm on Tuesday February 13.
