RUGBY’S coming home.

Iconic moments and great players from the game of rugby union have been captured on canvas by a Rugby artist – and will now be exhibited in the place where it all kicked-off.

In This Place, the debut solo exhibition by Leanne Gilroy, will be staged at Rugby School’s Lewis Gallery – just yards from the pitch where the game is fabled to have begun in 1823.

Born and raised in the town, Leanne has channelled her passion for the game and its heritage through her painting.

Leanne gained a first class honours degree in Illustration in 2010 and has been producing commissions ever since.

She uses of a variety of textures and colours in multiple layers to produce portraits, in which she captures the essence of each individual and combines it with a free and abstract contemporary style.

An open preview evening takes place on Thursday September 8 from 6pm to 8.30pm.

A percentage of profits will be donated to Leanne’s charity of choice, the Matt Hampson Foundation, which helps young people seriously injured through sport. One of the paintings will be sold at auction on the preview evening, with all of the proceeds going to the Foundation.

The free exhibition runs from Friday September 9 to Friday September 23 – open Monday to Friday from 2pm to 5pm.
