THE BYGONE age of steam is celebrated in a new book.
Steam Around the West Midlands is packed with information and colour and black and white photographs from the days when the region’s railways were the preserve of steam powered locomotives.
The West Midlands was home to huge engine sheds and railway workshops which made the region a happy hunting ground for followers of steam locomotives such as ‘Royal Scots’, ‘Jubilees’ and ‘Princess Coronation’ Pacifics.
The book includes a chapter dedicated to the line from Rugby to Birmingham New Street.
Penned by Michael Welch, and published by Rail, Steam Around the West Midllands is available now.
