A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to a four month detention and training order for a string of sexual offences in Rugby.
The eight offences, in which the young man touched lone women, took place between September and October of this year.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also sentenced to a six months detention and training order for an additional sexual offence which took place on Thursday December 10 in Rugby.
The teenager, who appeared in Leamington Youth Court, was given the two sentences to run concurrently and ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for five years.
Det Insp Anna Middleton said: “All of the offences were against lone females in the Rugby area where the offender was found to have committed a sexual assault by inappropriately touching them.
“This sentence shows that any kind of inappropriate or unwanted sexual touching is an offence and will be treated very seriously when reported to police. We hope that this sentence is a stark reminder that any kind of sexual contact is an offence unless you have consent.”
“Anyone who has been affected by a sexual offence or rape can be reassured that if they choose to come forward to police they will be treated in a caring and sensitive manner.
“Rape and sexual offences are serious crimes and will be treated seriously by police.”
