Rugby woman facing lengthy jail sentence for two gun robberies

A WOMAN from Rugby has been told she is facing ‘a substantial sentence of imprisonment’ after she admitted taking part in gunpoint robberies of a taxi driver and a hotel worker in the town.

Lisa Amos appeared at Warwick Crown Court via a video link from HMP Peterborough, where she has been on remand since her arrest for the robberies in August.

The 33 year-old, of Prior Park Road, pleaded guilty to robbing a taxi driver of his wallet, phone and cash on August 28 and robbing a hotel night porter of cash two nights later.

She also admitted two charges of possessing a firearm, a .38 calibre revolver, at the time of the robberies and possessing four rounds of ammunition, when she was arrested on September 3.

Amos had been charged with the offences together with Adam Graham, also of Prior Park Road, who should have been in the dock at the court.

Prosecutor Peter Grieves-Smith explained 38 year-old Graham had not been produced from the prison where he had been on remand because it was mistakenly believed he had also been due to appear via a video link.

But he said it was expected Graham would also plead guilty when he appeared at the court at a later date.

The first robbery and firearm charge follow an incident when a taxi driver picked up Amos and Graham outside Rugby railway station around 9.30pm on Sunday August 28.

The pair asked him to take them to York Street, but when he arrived Graham threatened him with the revolver and demanded his phone, wallet and cash box.

The second robbery took place at 4.30am on the following Tuesday at the Premier Inn hotel in Brownsover Road when the night porter was threatened with the gun and ordered to open the safe.

David Everett, defending both Amos and Graham, said: “Drugs was the incentive for the commission of the offences.”

The pair are both set to sentenced at their next court appearance, a date for which has yet to be set.
