Rugby's greenest bus drivers named

FRIENDLY competition is fuelling Rugby coach drivers to ‘drive green’.

Each year Stagecoach Midlands rewards the top performing eco-friendly driver at each of their six depots with a £50 gift voucher.

The company uses an eco-driver monitoring system on the dashboard, which measures the effects of the driver’s performance on fuel consumption, carbon emissions and wear and tear on the vehicles.

This year, the award at the Rugby depot has gone to Ian Taylor who drives for Stagecoach, and Andrew Jones who drives for Megabus – and who was described as ‘a credit to the depot’.

Stagecoach Midlands Managing Director Steve Burd said: “Sustainability is at the heart of our business and we are continuing to work hard to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. As a business, we have made good progress on our sustainability strategy over the past eight years.

“Attracting more people out of cars and on to our bus services is also helping reduce the overall carbon emissions from transport.”
