A POPULAR Rugby pub has tapped into success after winning the Rugby Campaign for Real Ale’s Pub of the Year award.

The Rugby Tap was named the top pub in town and heralded as an excellent addition to the flourishing trend of brewpubs and micropubs.

Owner Colin Arthur said: “To win this prestigious award in such a great beer town a year after opening Rugby’s only micropub is amazing.

“For myself, Jack and Ken to achieve this is a very proud achievement for us all.

“A big thank you to all our regulars and the CAMRA members who voted for us.”

Steve Heighton from Rugby CAMRA said: “This is a hugely significant win for the Tap as the bar has only been open for a year.

“There is a national growing trend towards smaller bars and pubs that offer a wide, ever-changing range of real ales and ciders and the Rugby Tap is the equal of any other that I have visited.

“The bar is probably one of the county’s smallest bars and until now very much a hidden gem. This award will now bring a wider audience to the bar.”

The Tap boasts a huge variety of beer, with many available straight from the barrel.

The competition covered all pubs and bars in the Rugby area. The Tap will now represent Rugby in the Warwickshire Pub of the Year competition and bid to enter the West Midlands competition.
