RUN, Damian, run! A Rugbeian has begun his epic 300-mile run to Belgium in aid of the hospital which kept his niece and nephew alive against all odds.
Damian Rees, 38, was cheered on by family, friends and onlookers when he set off from Mr Robinson’s Barber Shop in the town centre on Thursday (May 2).
As The Observer reported last month, he is taking on the challenge to raise funds for the neonatal ward at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) where twins Luke and Eva Phillipson were treated four years ago after being born three months prematurely.
When he arrives at his destination of Antwerp, hirsute Damian will take part in the World Beard and Moustache Championships, which starts on May 17 in the Belgian city.

Damian’s beard was the perfect inspiration for his choice of costume – Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks’ character from the 1994 movie, who ran around the USA for three years and grew an impressive beard in the process.
