A RUSSIAN-speaking Rugby resident has pleaded for parents to encourage their children not to victimise their Russian-speaking classmates over the invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking on social media, the anonymous person said they had heard reports of Russian-speaking school pupils being bullied and attacked since the conflict began.

They said: “I am asking all my British friends and colleagues to talk to your children about the situation between Russia and Ukraine, and their Russian-speaking schoolmates here in the UK.

“Just because one or both their parents speak Russian, it does not mean that they support war.

“Nobody wants war. War means losses on both sides.

“Many Russian-speaking people in the UK have very little to do with Russia. Thousands of Russian-speakers speak the language since USSR times. We were born and raised in Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, etc, and are citizens of these countries.

“Speak with your children not to bully or make jokes at their Russian-speaking schoolmates.”
