AVON Valley School has named its head boy and girl for the next school year.

Current Year 10 students Oliver Walker and Bay Plumbley will take up the roles until they leave the school in a year’s time.

To apply for a student leadership position, applicants were required to submit a letter of application and undergo an interview with their house’s achievement leader and the school’s head teacher.

Head teacher Alison Davies said: “Many of our Year 10 students put themselves forward for student leadership roles. I was extremely impressed with the quality of their applications and the maturity they showed during their interviews.

“Both Bay and Oliver have fully embraced the school’s ethos and showed themselves to be hardworking and dedicated students.

“I know they will both be excellent ambassadors whom our younger students can look up to.”

AVON Valley was a hive of activity in the final week of term when it held an end-of-year spelling bee competition.

Students from the entire school were involved in the preliminary round and were whittled down to five finalists.

After a nail-biting final, Year 10 student Cyril Frempong was declared the winner and presented with the Spelling Bee Cup, badge and £10 gift token.

English teacher Carolyn Davies said “Congratulations to Cyril, the competition’s first ever winner. The cup will be engraved with Cyril’s name and he will now always be remembered as our first winner!”
