School to build futuristic outdoor 'bio-dome' classroom

Rugby Editorial 20th Oct, 2018   0

A FUTURISTIC ‘bio-dome’ classroom where kids can learn about the environment is coming to a primary school after it landed a windfall from a housebuilder.

The Friends of Paddox Primary School, a parent-teacher association, has received £2,500 towards the project from local housebuilder CALA Homes’ Community Bursary.

Large enough to hold a full class of pupils, the dome will be used to teach children about growing food, animals and nature.

It will also be used for parents and other members of the community to share knowledge and experience with the younger generation.

Friends of Paddox committee member Jessica Hartshorn said the group was thrilled to get the funding.

She said: “We see the value of teaching children, their wider families and the community about ecosystems, learning about where food comes from and enabling them to engage with the environment.

“With the funding from CALA Homes, we are one step closer towards completing the project and look forward to launching the new facility next year.”

The CALA Community Bursary was launched earlier this year, inviting organisations, charities and groups in Rugby to apply to help fund projects which make a difference in the community.

Mark Wright, the managing director of CALA Homes Midlands – which is currently building homes at its Eden Park development – said: “After receiving many amazing applications for a range of worthwhile causes, we faced an incredibly tough decision when selecting the final successful groups for the Community Bursary initiative.

“We are delighted to provide The Friends of Paddox Primary School with the funding needed to complete this inspiring project which will have long-lasting benefits for both pupils and local community.”

The Friends of Paddox Primary School comes together each month to organise social and fundraising events for children and the community. The group also helps to fund school trips, additional equipment, community events and activities.
