A ‘THRILLED’ pupil from Crescent School was introduced to a range of wheelchair sports and activities by a triple Paralympian.

Year 5 pupil Michael Mercer took part in Winning on Wheels, a wheelchair sports event organised by Think Active and hosted by Warwickshire College.

During the day, Michael took part in wheelchair basketball, racing, rugby and dance, alongside children with disabilities from across Warwickshire.

He also met Great Britain wheelchair rugby player Mandip ‘Manni’ Sehmi, who showed the youngsters the basics of the sport and let them try out special sports wheelchairs which allow players to collide with each other.

Michael said: “It was really fantastic to meet Manni and to have a go at all of the wheelchair sports. I really enjoyed the day, it was a lot of fun.”

A Crescent School spokeswoman said: “It was a great opportunity for Michael, and our thanks go to Think Active for organising the event.”
