OVER a thousand pieces of in-demand personal protective equipment (PPE) has been donated to local nurses and doctors thanks to a resourceful science technician from a school in Rugby.
Liesl Kirsopp from Rugby High School was concerned at hearing front-line medical staff at University Hospital Coventry (UHC) were sharing goggles as they did not have enough.
After collecting 200 sets from Rugby High’s science labs, she then contacted science technicians from Rugby School, Lawrence Sheriff, The Crescent, Rugby Free Secondary School, Guilsborough Academy, Ashlawn School and Pitsford School in Northampton, and arranged to collect their equipment.
So far, 1,000 goggles, 60 face shields and 60 pairs of gloves have been collected and donated.
The nurses and doctors have thanked the schools, saying they were “unbelievably short of PPE”.
A nurse at UHC said to Liesl: “You are a star!
“The wards were dipping goggles from B&Q in detergent yesterday and having to share equipment. These are much better.”
