Search for stars begins as annual Rugby talent show launches

THE SEARCH for stars in Rugby is underway with the launch of this year’s Rugby’s Got Talent competition.

This year’s contest was launched at Inside The 22 with help from Kieran Taylour and Paul Sammon, respective winners of the 2018 and 2019 competitions.

Kieran and Paul – alongside Organisers Rugby Dunsmore Rotary Club and Rugby Area Talent Trust (RATT) – urged Rugbeians to get involved.

Mike Folly, President elect of Rugby Dunsmore Rotary Club, said: “We want to give talented people the opportunity to experience performing in front of an audience at the best venues in town, enabling them to gain confidence from being around like-minded people and in front of an sizeable audience.

“Everyone gains by entering. While only one person can win, all of our previous entrants have used the event as a springboard to enjoying greater success.”

Johanne Thomas from show sponsors Come Home to Houlton added: “We are keen to help nurture the talent in Rugby and we think this is a great way people can test their prowess in front of the public at a real live show.”

Judges will choose 24 acts to participate in three semi-finals, which will take place at Inside The 22 on July 14, 15 and 16. Two acts from each semi-final – plus two more ‘wildcards’ – will appear on stage at the Benn Hall for the Grand Finale on July 18.

Cash prizes of £500 for the winner and £100 for the runner up will be up for grabs, along with other prizes to be revealed closer to the event.

Organisers are inviting Rugby’s independent traders and businesses to sponsor each of the 24 semi-final acts for £50 each – which will be matched by Brown and Cockerill estate agents.
