RESIDENTS of a care home could not go to the beach for National Fish and Chip Day – so the beach was brought to them instead.
The residents of Overslade House enjoyed a trip to a home-made beach in the garden, after staff decided fish and chips always tastes better at the seaside.
The home’s activities team also created the Overslade House ice-cream van, from which residents chose their own toppings from old time favourites.
Resident John Smith got all the men to wear knotted hankies on their heads, as he remembered doing as a child at the seaside, while fellow resident Anne Fletcher led the Overslade choir in a rendition of Oh I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside.
Staff and residents are keeping their fingers crossed for a trip to the beach next summer.
