A ‘SELFISH’ fly-tipper has been slammed by an Observer reader for dumping rubbish – including a vacuum cleaner and an office chair – on a grass verge and in a brook next to a residential street.
Rugby Borough Council received three reports of a woman fly-tipping in Burnside, New Bilton – next to the Burnside open space and Sow Brook – last Thursday (March 22). Taxpayers’ money funded the council clean-up.
The council is investigating and hopes to prosecute the culprit.
In an open letter to the fly-tipper, Observer reader Paul Crowther said her behaviour was selfish, uncaring and irresponsible.
He added: “To not possess even a modicum of social responsibility, to think you can dump your rubbish wherever you like and that it’s OK to do so, to not care about the environment or the world around you, to not have a conscience, earns my pity.
“It was bad enough that you left all the junk that you did on the grass, why did you have to throw it in the brook as well?”
He added it would have been easier to take the rubbish to the Hunters Lane tip.
“The place that you chose to dump your rubbish is a Neighbourhood Watch area and you were seen,” he continued. “Your description, that of your car and your car registration number have been passed to the police. I hope you are visited by them and that you get what you deserve. Shame on you.”
A spokesman for Rugby Borough Council said: “We received three reports from members of the public regarding the fly-tipping incident in Burnside.
“A council crew was dispatched to clear the dumped items from the brook and grass, and our environmental protection team has now launched an investigation in a bid to find the culprits.
“We’d urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information about the owner of the items which were fly-tipped to email [email protected] or call (01788) 533533.”
