Selfless students give away profits to help feed the hungry

SELFLESS students from Rugby College gave away the profits they made to help feed hungry people who are struggling to get by.

As part of their Level 3 Business course, Georgia Hobday, Katelyn Howes, Oscar Bunting-Relph and Charlie Elsegood had to plan, manage and hold an event of their choice.

They raised over £560 at a quiz they held at Dunchurch Village Hall last month – and donated it all to Rugby Foodbank.

Charlie said: “We all decided that instead of keeping the profits to ourselves, we should give it to a charity who needs it a lot more than we do.

“We wanted to help a local charity, so we chose Rugby Foodbank because they don’t get enough funds to keep up with demand. We hope the money can help with getting food parcels to more people who need them.

Over 90 people attended the quiz, helping the students to raise the money through ticket sales, refreshments and a raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses.

“We were really overwhelmed with the response,” Charlie added. “We had extra people turn up on the door who we weren’t expecting, and we managed to sell many raffle tickets. Also we got some exceptional customer feedback at the end of the event.

“We would like to thank all of the attendees who came out of their way in bad weather. Without them the profits for the Foodbank wouldn’t be a possibility.

“We would also like to thank everyone who donated prizes to the raffle.”

The students visited the Foodbank warehouse to present staff and volunteers with a cheque.

A Rugby Foodbank spokesperson thanked the students, adding: “What a great effort in helping those in food poverty in Rugby.”
