SHOPPERS are helping ‘devastated’ children at a primary school where a fire destroyed sheds containing much-loved play equipment and the school’s Christmas decorations.

A Christmas gift appeal at Asda has adopted Henry Hinde Infant School as its beneficiary, after painting easels, outside games, dressing-up clothes, puppet theatres and gardening tools went up in flames due to a suspected rogue firework.

Rugbeians are being asked to drop off educational games and toys, puzzles, stationary and family-friendly DVDs to the Chapel Street supermarket.

The school’s head teacher Fleur Edwards said: “After the terrible fire of the two large storage sheds there is literally nothing left, and the children are devastated.

“Any kind donation would be greatly received.”

Asda Rugby’s community champion Allie Scrace said: “We are calling on all kind-hearted people in the local community to help spread a little seasonal cheer this Christmas by donating gifts to our Christmas gift appeal.”
