Speeding Santas raise thousands for good causes in Lutterworth

SPEEDY Santas helped raise £5,000 for Lutterworth charities and community groups.

Around 550 people including many families – some covering three generations – strapped on their false beards for the annual Lutterworth Santa Fun Run.

Organised by the town’s two Rotary Clubs, the event has now raised over £100,000 in the ten years since it began.

This year the proceeds will be divided between the Air Ambulance, Lutterworth Share and Care Group, Cancer Research UK, Bamboozle Theatre Company, Lutterworth Town Mayor’s Appeal and Rotary-supported charities.

Chairman of the organising committee John Turner said: ‘We are very pleased with how things turned out.

“Everyone I spoke to, once they had recovered from their efforts, said how much they enjoyed the day and that it was nice to see so many families with young children, many of whom seemed to be leading their parents around!

“We’d like to thank all the event’s sponsors, Lutterworth College which hosted the fun run, the Pathway Community Church for providing welcome refreshments, Lutterworth Town Band for their seasonal repertoire and Cross Counties Radio for providing a festive commentary.”
