Spotlight beckons as Rugby Theatre holds auditions for upcoming shows

Rugby Editorial 14th Feb, 2024   0

THE SPOTLIGHT beckons as Rugby Theatre invites Rugbeians who dream of treading the boards to audition for its upcoming shows.

The Henry Street venue is holding a variety of auditions – including for its prestigious Youth Project, which this year will be the romantic comedy Legally Blonde: The Musical.

Packed full of songs and dance numbers, Legally Blonde follows fashionista Elle Woods, who enrols at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, and manages to defy expectations while staying true to her delightfully pink personality.

Taking place over the summer holidays, Rugby Theatre’s Youth Project is open to budding actors, singers and dancers aged 10 to 21, who will put together a high-quality show after just 10 days of rehearsals under the guidance of a West End director.

Legally Blonde will be the theatre’s 25th Youth Project, following on from last year’s sell-out performances of Grease: The Musical.

Auditions take place on Sunday February 25, and no previous experience is necessary.

Youngsters aged 14 and over who don’t want to be on stage can get involved behind the scenes in props, scenery, lighting and costume.

For adults there are also an array of opportunities for productions throughout 2024, starting with the modern classic A Streetcar Named Desire – auditions for which take place on Sunday February 18.

This is followed by a stage adaption of Thomas Hardy’s Far From The Madding Crowd which auditions on Saturday March 2, and Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Tell Me On A Sunday, which auditions on Saturday March 9.

Pre-registering is advised for the Youth Project. No experience is necessary and the theatre is keen to welcome new members. Visit www.rugbytheatre.co.uk for more information.
