Stretton latest village to stand up to rural crime

Rugby Editorial 23rd May, 2019   0

STRETTON-on-Dunsmore has become the latest village in the county to get tough on rural crime by joining a prevention initiative.

The village became the latest ‘Supported Village’ when Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Philip Seccombe presented residents with a community property marking box at the Parish Council’s Annual Meeting.

The programme, funded by the PCC, aims to give communities proactive crime prevention action and advice which can then be maintained by villagers.

Officers from Rugby Safer Neighbourhood Teams and the PCC-funded Rural Crime Officer provided crime prevention advice, marked residents’ property, and provided property marking pens to take home.

PCSO Dave Banks has also visited a number of community groups to give crime prevention advice.

Mr Seccombe said: “Communities can play a major part in the fight against crime by ensuring they take sensible precautions to protect their valuables and understand how to reduce their risk of falling victim.

“The Supported Villages scheme helps to ensure that everyone – criminals included – knows that the village as a whole is security conscious and is working closely with the local police.

“I’m delighted to see the continuing success of the scheme across the county and I’m pleased to welcome Stretton-on-Dunsmore to the ‘Supported Villages’ fold.”

Stretton is the eighth community in Rugby borough to join the initiative, joining Binley Woods, Willoughby, Wolvey, Brinklow Marton, Bourton and Draycote – with four others in the north of Warwickshire also on board.
