CHILDREN who have missed out on immunisations during the pandemic can catch up over the summer.
Rugby’s Locke House – where 165,000 Covid vaccinations were administered – is among the Warwickshire sites running clinics during the summer holidays for the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust’s (CWPT) School Aged Immunisation Service.
The Trust says many children in the region have missed one or more routine immunisations in the past two years, due to school shutdowns during lockdowns and parents not realising the Trust was offering vaccinations – or not wanting to burden the NHS.
Clinics are available at venues across the region between July 28 and August 17. Vaccinations available include HPV dose 1 or 2, Td/IPV – which protects against tetanus, diphtheria and polio – and MenACWY – which protects against meningitis and septicaemia.
Mairead Thompson, Clinical Lead for the School Aged Immunisation Service, said: “Despite the focus on vaccinations over the past couple of years, routine immunisations that protect children and families have been falling.
“It is vitally important that children receive their immunisations to prevent serious illness. This is particularly relevant with the recent news about polio detected in London sewage.
“Although the risk to the general public is very low, it is a timely reminder to ensure that children are adequately protected.”
Summer clinics will be available at Locke House in Rugby, Woodloes House in Warwick, St Peter’s Church in Coventry, and Jepson House in Nuneaton.
Parents of children in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 who have missed immunisations over the past two years are encouraged to book an appointment. Visit www.swiftqueue.co.uk/userlogin.php to book.
Standard appointment slots are ten minutes long. Contact the office on 02476 961422 prior to appointment if more time is required.
Anyone unsure whether their child has missed immunisations can contact their GP.
