Supermarket shoppers offered easier way to donate essential goods to foodbanks

KIND-hearted Rugby shoppers are being offered an easier way of donating essential items to foodbanks.

The Tesco superstore in Leicester Road is offering pre-filled donation bags for customers to buy and donate to the charities FareShare and the Trussell Trust.

The bags, which contain items that are most in need, will be available to buy from August 28 to September 3.

Customers can also round up their bill at the checkout to make donations to the charities.

Emma Revie, CEO at the Trussell Trust – which runs a national network of foodbanks including Rugby Foodbank – said: “The generosity of Tesco and its customers plays a vital role in ensuring that foodbanks can continue to support people who cannot afford the essentials.

“Over the last year, foodbanks have faced record levels of need and, while donations have increased by 18 per cent, our network distributed 37 per cent more emergency food parcels than in 2021-22.”
