'Superstar' shopkeeper gives primary school unexpected Christmas gift

A ‘LOCAL superstar’ shopkeeper has given a primary school an unexpected Christmas gift.

Akshaya Jay, who owns the Premier Store in Cymbeline Way, donated £200 to Bilton C of E Junior School to help them buy much-needed resources.

Like many others, the school has found it difficult to raise funds this year.

The schools head teacher said the donation would make a huge difference, and would help to provide pupils with resources that they would not have otherwise had access to.

Alexandra Norton said: “We were incredibly surprised and moved by Jay’s generosity. We were not expecting such a generous donation at all.

“Jay has been very much part of the whole school community since he became the owner of our local shop.

“He has been incredibly supportive to everyone throughout these unprecedented times and this is just another indication of his how thoughtful he is.

“So many parents, carers and staff members have sent messages of thanks to Jay. People are overwhelmed and grateful for his kindness.”

Parents expressed their gratitude on social media.

One said: “Jay is always so humble and kind. Thank you for the fantastic job you do and your generous spirit!”

Another added: “He’s gone above and beyond to provide to the locals during lockdown too.”

Others described Jay as ‘one in a million’ and ‘a local superstar’.
