DOZENS of cats and kittens are in need of new homes after a surge in unwanted moggies being left in the care of a Rugby charity.
Volunteers at the Rugby branch of Cats Protection are desperate to find forever homes for 37 cats, including 21 kittens – having taken in 12 cats last month alone.
Their longest serving residents are tortoiseshell Venus and black-and-white Serena, both aged between five and six, who have been at the branch since April.
The branch also has ten cats age seven and over in their care, with the oldest turning 16 this month.
Rugby branch coordinator Eva Goodwin said: “There has been such an increase in the number of cats needing to be rehomed locally and as fast as we’re homing them, more cats are coming into our care.
“We want loving homes for all our cats and kittens, but it’s the older cats that we are particularly struggling to find owners for because so many people simply want all the joy and exuberance a young kitten brings to the household.
“We would like to make a plea on behalf of older cats, like Venus and Serena, who are perfect for anyone wanting a lap cat or a more calm feline companion who just wants cuddles and fuss.”
Like all cats adopted from Cats Protection, Venus and Serena are up-to-date with their vaccinations, are neutered, microchipped and come with four weeks’ insurance cover.
