TWO Ashlawn School students are Oxbridge-bound, while others are celebrating their A-Level and BTEC results.

Head Girl Gabby Thomas achieved an A* in French, A in English Literature and A in Politics, in order to take up her place at St Anne’s College Oxford to read French and Italian.

Gabby said: “I was so surprised to see my results, I really didn’t think the exams had gone my way but I’m relieved that it all worked out and I can say that I’m going to Oxford!

“It’s my Dad’s birthday today so this is the perfect present for him, my Mum and Dad are so proud.”

Robson Tebbutt achieved four A*s – in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths – and will now go on to read Natural Sciences at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge.

Robson said: “I’m speechless. I’m relieved and so happy that my results were what I wanted. The whole process has been quite nerve-racking, it has been lots of hard work.”

A number of students will now be pursuing careers in medicine after securing the grades they needed, including Owain Griffiths who will study at the University of Nottingham after achieving an A* and 2As.

Charlotte Hart will also read the subject at the University of Sheffield after securing an A in Biology, A in Chemistry and A in Maths.

Charlotte, who joined Ashlawn School for Sixth Form, was inspired to pursue a career in medicine after experiencing the care of the NHS when she had major spinal surgery at the age of 13, which also resulted in six months off school.

Charlotte said: “I’m so shocked, I really didn’t think I had done so well but I am over the moon. I can’t wait to start my course and am thrilled to be on the road to becoming a doctor and being able to help others.”

Rajbir Sandhu, who gained an A* in Punjabi and three As in Biology, French and Chemistry, will now work as a maths and English tutor alongside volunteering in hospitals and care homes before beginning a degree in Medicine next year.

He said: “I was so nervous, I can’t believe it, I am absolutely delighted!

Gabriel Howes, who achieved an A* and two As, will now go on to attend Loughborough University to study Maths.

He said: “I’m really happy! It has been a lot of hard work but it has definitely worth it. I’m particularly pleased with my results in Maths as it was a difficult exam.”

Hannah Diesch was delighted to find out that she had secured three A grades in A level Psychology, Biology and Chemistry and also achieved an A in her Extended Project. This September, Hannah will join the University of Birmingham to study Nursing.

She said: “I didn’t expect to do so well. My parents are so proud of me too, it’s just amazing.”

Robbie Haynes swept the board with his results, securing three A*s in order to confirm his place to read Physics at the University of Nottingham, while Jack Liepa gained 2 A* and 1 A in English Literature, History and Politics to join the University of Lancaster.

Amelia Howe achieved a B in Biology and B in Psychology. An Ashlawn spokeswoman said Amelia had shown overwhelming commitment to continue her studies after being diagnosed with cancer just before her GCSEs.

Amelia said: “My studies have always been really important to me, so when I was diagnosed with cancer I tried my best to keep up with school work.

“I’m looking forward to taking my third A-Level in Chemistry at Ashlawn next year, before I go on to my next steps.”

School Principal Siobhan Evans said: “Today’s results are testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff and I would like to congratulate them for their outstanding achievements.

“It is wonderful to see our students achieving their aspirations, taking up their places at some of the country’s top universities as well as prestigious higher-level apprenticeships. I wish them all every success for the future.”
